(WHITE PLAINS, NY) In a sign of support for Westchester’s immigrant community, the Immigrant Protection Act, an Act introduced by Majority Leader Catherine Borgia & 7 Democratic Legislators in February, passed with a bi-partisan vote of 10-5.

We believe the Immigration Protection Act (IPA) is well intentioned legislation but it provides little in new protections for immigrants living in our communities. Starting with Executive Order No. 4 of 2006 by the previous County Executive and for the last 7+ years of the current County Executive, Westchester County does not investigate or detain any resident based solely on their immigration status. The same policy stands today throughout municipal law enforcement across Westchester County. The immigrant community should know that Law Enforcement is there to serve them and protect them regardless of their immigration status.

At the recent Seniors Committee meeting of the Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL), Chairman, Legislator David Tubiolo, discussed the Prescription Discount Card program.

(WHITE PLAINS, NY) “After years of wasting Westchester taxpayer money, and 10 attempts at submitting an acceptable analysis of impediments, it seems the 11th time is the charm for the County Executive. The difference now is that this attempt comes on the heels of Lynne Patton’s, a former Eric Trump Foundation event planner, appointment as HUD Region II Administrator.

(WHITE PLAINS, NY) With a room packed full of supporters, legislators met with Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett, Commissioners from the Departments of Social Services, Corrections, Public Safety, & Probation, and immigration advocates to discuss the Immigrant Protection Act. At the end of the meeting, legislators agreed to work diligently to make any needed revisions to the bill in the coming week. A full vote on the Act is anticipated to take place at the next Board of Legislators meeting.
