Generous Donation by Golf Course Owner to Provide Valuable Open Space in Yorktown

Legislator George Oros (R-C/Cortlandt) applauded the community spirit that was displayed in the preservation of 13 acres on Route 6 in Jefferson Valley for open space.

Oros joined Yorktown Supervisor Linda Cooper, Councilman Nick Bianco, Peekskill Mayor John Testa and other interested parties in thanking Cary Fields of Putnam Valley, and his partner, Ron Santorelli of Yorktown, for donating land most recently used as a par 3 golf course to Yorktown for $1.

The land, worth several million dollars and heavily sought by large commercial developers, lies within the Peekskill watershed and contains many designated wetlands.

“I’m pleased to play such a small role in the preservation of open space and protecting the Peekskill watershed,” Oros said. “Nick Bianco deserves a lot of credit for working with Cary Fields to reach an agreement that everyone is happy with. It’s just a great example of community spirit at its best.”
