Unclaimed Funds Graphic

Westchester County, NY – In collaboration with Westchester County ExecutiveGeorge Latimer, Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins, and New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the Board of Legislators is pleased to announce that many residents may have unclaimed funds available for retrieval.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, "Westchester County Government is here to serve the people. I would like to thank New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, as well as my colleagues at the Board of Legislators, who are helping thousands of Westchester County families recover money that is owed to them. It is our hope that people will take advantage of this vital program, that is ultimately helping to put money back in the pockets of our residents."

Board of Legislators Chair Vedat Gashi (New Castle, Ossining, Somers, Yorktown) said, "The Westchester County Board of Legislators is pleased to join with the County Executive, Deputy County Executive, and New York State Comptroller's Office in offering these workshops to help constituents claim funds owed to them. Together, we are committed to making this process smooth and accessible for Westchester residents."

Legislator David Imamura (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Greenburgh, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington) said, "I am thrilled that an initiative that started with my district is now expanding to the entire county. Over 65,000 people in Westchester have unclaimed funds, and they deserve the chance to claim their money."

A Rivertowns resident who claimed funds last year recounted her story, "My brother, who is under full-time care at home, had let his mail pile up, missing out on important financial payments. I struggled with the recovery process until Legislator Imamura and his team reached out with a mailer about unclaimed funds and offered to help. Their kindness and persistence in connecting us with the State Comptroller's office made all the difference. These funds, representing a substantial amount, made a difference in my brother's care. I encourage anyone who receives a similar letter this September to know it's a genuine effort by the local government to support their well-being."

The Comptroller's Office has recently identified a staggering $480 million in unclaimed funds in Westchester County alone. These funds often originate from dormant accounts held by banks, corporations, insurance companies, or the courts. They might include uncashed paychecks, missed reimbursements, or other financial assets that have yet to reach their intended recipients. Some of this money could be yours if you have relocated or experienced any changes that might have led to missed payments. These funds are legally yours; you can claim them from the State at no cost.

It is important to note that a significant portion of unclaimed funds may belong to deceased individuals. Reclaiming these funds may still benefit their estate even if the intended recipient has passed away.
