The Westchester County Board of Legislators marked Irish American Heritage Month on Monday evening with a ceremony honoring two remarkable changemakers: Sandra Feeney-Charles, Executive Director of the Aisling Center in Yonkers and an inspirational humanitarian who worked with the international organization Concern Worldwide, and Pauline M. Galvin, Chairwoman of the Yonkers Planning Board and a driving force behind the Untermyer Performing Arts Council, Richmond Community Services, and the McLean Avenue Merchants Association.

On Monday night, legislators unanimously confirmed Joan McDonald’s appointment as Westchester Deputy County Executive and honored her predecessor, Richard Wishnie, who retired in January after more than 50 years of exceptional service to the people of Westchester County.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators celebrated African American Heritage Month on Monday night with a ceremony honoring two exceptional individuals: Wade Hardy, Public Safety Commissioner for the City of White Plains, the first African American to be appointed to that role, and Lieutenant Khalia M. Carter, Commanding Officer of the Community Policing Unit in the City of Peekskill, who was promoted to her current rank in a ceremony on the same night. Lieutenant Carter is the first African American to reach the rank of lieutenant in the 177-year history of the Peekskill police force.

On Thursday evening, Legislators celebrated 22 Westchester County high school students who were named 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) Scholars, including two finalists, selected from a national pool of 2,600 applicants.
