Herman S. Geist Fellowship Program
The Westchester County Board of Legislators is proud to offer the Herman S. Geist Fellowship Program, a paid summer internship for high school and college students. This fellowship provides participants with an opportunity to learn how county government operates through direct experience in a legislative office.

Overview
Fellows work with members of the Board of Legislators and their staff to support day-to-day operations, observe the legislative process, and assist with projects that serve Westchester County residents. Participants gain professional experience, build leadership skills and work closely with government employees.
Eligibility

Applicants must be:
- Between 16 and 22 years old
- Enrolled in high school or college
- A resident of Westchester County
Program Details
- Duration: 4 to 6 weeks between June 1 and September 7
- Schedule: Weekly hours are determined by each legislator’s office, with a maximum of 100 hours over the course of the fellowship
- Compensation: Hourly, at the applicable minimum wage
- Location: Offices of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains, NY 10601

About Herman S. Geist
The Honorable Herman S. Geist was the first Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators and a lifelong public servant. A World War II veteran, Mr. Geist co-founded the Westchester Parks Foundation, served on the Westchester Medical Center Board of Trustees, and helped strengthen and expand county government, parks, culture, and healthcare in Westchester. The fellowship was established by the Board in April 2025, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, to honor his legacy.
