The Westchester County Board of Legislators celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday night with a ceremony recognizing two exemplary honorees: San Andrés Episcopal Food Pantry, a critical community nourishment source for generations of Yonkers residents, along with Chief Louis “Fredo” Sanchez, Ossining’s first Hispanic American fire chief, a lifelong public servant and tireless community leader.

Legislator James Nolan Presents “Big Check” for Arts Curriculum Supporting Students with Special Needs

Westchester County Board of Legislators Minority Whip James Nolan (R- Yonkers, Eastchester, Bronxville) delivered $15,000 in County funding to the Yonkers-based Westchester School for Special Children to support in-school art and dance classes. Heartsong, Inc., a therapeutic, educational, and rehabilitative creative arts non-profit in White Plains will oversee the classes. Heartsong aims to enhance the functioning level and life quality of individuals with special needs in an atmosphere of joy and support.

Legislator Reappointed to Leadership Post in National County Organization

Westchester residents will continue to have a strong voice in shaping national policies on the environment, energy, and transportation. The National Association of Counties (NACo) reappointed Westchester County Legislator Erika L. Pierce (D- Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers) as Vice Chair of the Environment, Energy, and Land Use Steering Committee for 2025. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins was also reappointed as Subcommittee Chair for NACo’s Transportation Steering Committee, Transit/Rail Subcommittee at the organization’s 2025 Annual Conference held in July.
