Legislator Reappointed to Leadership Post in National County Organization
Westchester residents will continue to have a strong voice in shaping national policies on the environment, energy, and transportation. The National Association of Counties (NACo) reappointed Westchester County Legislator Erika L. Pierce (D- Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers) as Vice Chair of the Environment, Energy, and Land Use Steering Committee for 2025. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins was also reappointed as Subcommittee Chair for NACo’s Transportation Steering Committee, Transit/Rail Subcommittee at the organization’s 2025 Annual Conference held in July.
Pierce, Chair of the Board’s Public Works and Transportation Committee and Vice Chair of the Board’s Parks and Environment Committee said, “Counties play a critical role in addressing community needs through programs and infrastructure and by fostering collaboration with other government partners. For ninety years, NACo has been raising the voices of county government and helping to make them more effective for the communities they serve. I am thrilled and excited to continue that work as a Vice Chair for the Environment, Energy, and Land Use Policy Steering Committee. This work is even more important as we face the challenges ahead.”
Pierce and Jenkins were two of 12 county officials from New York named to key NACo leadership posts in July. Founded in 1935, NACo represents nearly 40,000 county elected officials and 3.6 million county employees nationwide. The organization advocates for county priorities in federal policymaking, promotes innovative county practices, and helps maximize resources for taxpayers.
The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), founded in 1925, is an affiliate of NACo and collaborates closely with the organization to advance the priorities of New York’s counties at the state and federal levels. Westchester County Legislator Benjamin Boykin II (D- White Plains, Scarsdale, West Harrison) today completed his one-year term as NYSAC president.
