Residents Slam Con Ed for Inflating Delivery Rates at Fourth Public Input Session
Frustrated residents gathered last night to voice their outrage over Con Edison's skyrocketing delivery rates at the Westchester County Board of Legislators' fourth Con Edison Public Input Session. The meeting, held at the New Rochelle YMCA, was the latest chapter in the Board's countywide effort to amplify community concerns about the company’s pricing practices.
Con Edison is seeking to drive up delivery rates, with estimated increases in residential electricity bills of 11.4% and gas bills of 13.3% by 2026 — compounding bills that many residents already consider excessive.
As part of its commitment to challenge these proposed rate increases, the Board joined the County in Con Edison’s major rate case with the New York State Public Service Commission. This intervention, announced in March, ensures that residents' voices carry weight in proceedings that will determine their energy costs.
Following this action, the board launched a series of public input sessions around the County.
On Tuesday night, Board Vice Chairman Jose Alvarado and Legislators Terry Clements, Jewel Williams Johnson and James Nolan listened intently to struggling community members and nonprofit organizations who shared stories of hardships caused by ballooning utility bills.
The public is encouraged to attend the Board's fifth Con Edison Public Input Session:
Tuesday, July 29th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Rye Brook Village Hall
938 King Street
Rye Brook, NY 10573
