Legislator Erika L. Pierce Presents $65,000 to Community Based Services, Inc.

Westchester County Legislator Erika L. Pierce (D-Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers) delivered a $65,000 “big check” to Community Based Services, Inc. to help families with young people aging out of high school supports. The County funds will enable the North Salem-based nonprofit to hire transition coordinators who educate families on their options as they navigate a complex system of referrals and care coordination.

Community Based Services (CBS) has spent more than 40 years providing services to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization connects clients with tailored support including at-home services, respite care for families, day services, supported employment, and pre-vocational training.

“The transition process for those aging out of the public school system can be very complicated and not every family has easy access to the guidance they need to best navigate the process,” Pierce said. “Having support and a clear understanding of the various steps needed and timelines involved can be critical for families, especially our working families. I am thrilled that we are again able to work with CBS to provide this important support and guidance.”

CBS Chief Executive Officer Vicki Sylvester said, “We are deeply grateful to Legislator Erika Pierce for her tireless advocacy and leadership in supporting families and children with disabilities. The renewal of our contract with Westchester County is a powerful testament to the County Legislators’ unwavering commitment to these families. Thanks to these funds, we’ve been able to serve a growing number of transition-age students and their families—supporting 20% more families this year than last. The need continues to grow, and this support is making a real difference. Thank you, Erika, and thank you to the Westchester County Legislators for your continued partnership and dedication.”
