The mission of the Committee on Health is to oversee County policies affecting the health of Westchester residents; to make recommendations to the full Board of Legislators on measures and/or initiatives that would enhance public health within the County; to oversee the County’s relationship with the Westchester Health Care Corporation (formerly the Westchester County Medical Center).
Matters of interest to the Health Committee include:
- Studying the state of the County’s health care delivery system for the County’s minority populations and recommend any legislative actions;
- Proposing any necessary changes in Westchester County’s Managed Care Policies and Practices;
- Working with the County Administration to determine and negotiate service needs with Westchester Health Care Corporation;
- Reviewing the County’s response to health care emergencies (e.g., lyme disease, rubella, encephalitis outbreak, West Nile Virus);
- Reviewing the County’s efforts to combat youth smoking;
- Addressing the health care needs of families in general and abused spouses and children in particular;
- Studying the issues related to healthcare insurance and recommending appropriate legislative reforms.
