The Chairman’s Youth Recognition Award recognizes young people in Westchester who have made a positive impact on their community’s environment.

With its focus this year on the “Green Theme,” the Youth Award honored Westchester kids who have helped in raising awareness to conserve and protect our world and environment. Teachers and community leaders submitted recommendations for exceptional students (18 & under) who had contributed to either safeguarding or improving their local environment by participating in a recycling program, getting involved in a neighborhood beautification project or proposing a climate change initiative at a school science fair.

The Award, presented by County Board Chairman Bill Ryan (D, IN, WF-White Plains) is co-sponsored by the legislative Committees on Environment & Energy and Generational, Cultural & Ethnic Diversity (GCED). It is the first such award designed to recognize youth achievement against the backdrop of Earth Day and a growing concern over the environment.
