Board Launches Unclaimed Funds Workshop Series

The Westchester County Board of Legislators, in collaboration with New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, is pleased to announce the launch of a second year of the successful workshop program designed to help Westchester County residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions retrieve money that is rightly theirs.

The State Comptroller’s Office identified a staggering $453 million in unclaimed funds in Westchester County alone. These funds often originate from dormant bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, insurance refunds, court deposits, and other financial assets held by banks, corporations, insurance companies, or the courts.

Workshops around Westchester County will provide free personalized assistance to those seeking to recover unclaimed funds that may be owed to them.

Chairman Vedat Gashi (D- New Castle, Ossining, Somers, Yorktown) said, “The Board of Legislators is proud to expand this vital program for a second year. These workshops have already helped countless Westchester families recover money that rightfully belongs to them. We’re committed to making this process accessible and straightforward for every resident who may have unclaimed funds waiting.”

Every day, the State Comptroller’s Office returns more than $2 million to New Yorkers. Recent recoveries in Westchester County include $5,781 for the White Plains City School District, $3,695 for the Business Council of Westchester, $2,175 for My Sisters Place, and $330 for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 21.

The unclaimed funds can be claimed at no cost through the State Comptroller’s Office. Funds that belonged to deceased individuals may benefit their estates. Residents who have relocated or experienced life changes are especially encouraged to attend.
