White Plains, NY — The Westchester County Board of Legislators will bring representatives of local power utilities before a Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting on Thursday to answer questions about the companies’ inadequate preparation for and response to Tropical Storm Isaias, which left thousands of Westchester customers without power for as much as a week.

Representatives of Con Edison and New York State Gas and Electric will appear by teleconference before the legislators on Sept. 10 at noon. Pursuant to Executive Orders from the Governor, and to protect public health, there will be no in-person public access.

Board Chairman Ben Boykin (D-White Plains, Scarsdale, Harrison), said, “After Storms Quinn and Riley in 2018, we were assured that things would be better the next time. But nothing has changed. When confronted with Isaias, the results were just as inadequate. From the over-reliance on mutual assistance, to inadequate in-house resources and personnel, to woeful communications, the system remains broken. Large fines after the fact seem to be the cost of doing business. We want to hear that substantial structural changes are coming.”

The meeting will be streamed live on the Board of Legislators’ website, www.westchesterlegislators.com
