A second independent evaluation has determined that Playland, the county-owned amusement park in Rye, is completely safe and poses no risks to patrons.
The report was prepared for the Public Works, Transportation, Labor, & Parks Committee (PWTL&P) of Westchester's Board of Legislators by T. Harold Hudson of AAPRA Associates, LLC (Hudson). Hudson was hired by the committee to make an independent evaluation of safety practices and procedures at Playland.
County Legislator Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) said the PWTL&P Committee, which he chairs, would discuss the report's findings once his members had a chance to study them. Specifically, Jenkins said that Mr. Hudson would appear before the committee to discuss the findings as would administration officials.
Jenkins also said that Board staff would prepare a side-by-side analysis of Hudson's findings and recommendations and those of an outside consultant who prepared a report for the County administration. That report, which also found Playland safe, was released last week.
“Now that we have our own independent report, we can sit down and objectively gauge the merit of the recommendations presented in both reviews,” Jenkins said. “We intend to thoroughly scrutinize each report and ultimately produce our own analysis of what additional safety measures management should take before the park reopens in the spring."
