With a quorum present, the Committee on Public Works, Transportation, Labor & Parks was called to order at 1:30 p.m.
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION:
Mid-Season Update on Playland with Director of Playland Dan McBride
Director of Playland Dan McBride presents the Committee with a PowerPoint presentation on functioning of the park midway through the season, including:
- introduction of healthier snacks
- banning of smoking inside the park
- restrooms added to Kiddyland
- new staff uniforms
- new misting system in Kiddyland
- updates on recycling and waste management programs
- customer service kiosks moved to park entrance
- FunCard sales up 8% over 2006
- Gross revenues of 2007 exceeded expectations to date by approximately $384,000
- Attendance has exceeded expectations to date by approximately 16,000
- State grant used to renovate First Aid station
- Exploring possibility of purchasing First Aid response vehicle
- Updated height-line stations to inform children which rides they may and may not use
Leg. Alvarado announces his intent to step down as Chairman of the Committee at the end of the meeting. He will be replaced by Leg. Jenkins, but shall remain a member of the Committee.
On a motion by Leg. Burton, seconded by Leg. Myers, the Committee on Public Works, Transportation, Labor and Parks adjourned at 2:10pm.
