Anthony Sutton, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services gave a power point presentation on the master plan for the Fire Training Center on the Valhalla campus. A copy of the presentation as well as the master plan is on file.

The presentation included the work that has already been completed, such as replacing the oil pits and liquid fuel fire simulators, work that has just begun, and upcoming projects. Construction that has recently begun includes dredging a pond for a new dry-hydrant system and repairing and relocating stairs in the training tower for safety purposes. Upcoming projects include the creation of a parking structure with storage areas for 7 types of vehicles. There will be 7 bay areas, one for each vehicle, and each will have adequate storage for the equipment the vehicles need.

There will be several office improvements, including additional classroom space, a conference room, locker rooms, and the Emergency Communications Center “60 Control” will have new work stations.

A discussion ensued regarding the 60 control center, and which 911 calls are received there. Commissioner Sutton informed the Committee that 911 calls from cell phones in the County go directly to the 60 control center in Hawthorne, and they have amazing tapes of emergency calls that were placed. He also explained that E911 is an enhanced 911 system that tracks the location of calls and the name and address on the account of the phone number that is calling immediately, which allows a faster response time.

There being no further business before the Committee, Legislator Pinto offered a motion that was seconded by Legislator Spreckman that the Public Safety and Security Committee adjourn. The motion carried at 4:38 p.m.
