MINUTES: January 19, 2006

The Committee on Legislation was called to order at 11:39 a.m.

COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION

The committee discussed the meeting day and time, and the setting of a quorum for the Legislation Committee meetings.

It was agreed by the committee to meet Mondays at 1:30 p.m.

The committee agreed to set the quorum at four (4) members to start the meeting.

The committee agreed that five (5) members are needed to take a vote.

The committee agreed that the five (5) affirmative votes are needed to pass an item out of committee.

2006 JOINT STATE LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE

Brendan McGrath, Senior Assistant County Attorney, and Kevin Ryan, from Office of Government Relations, gave an overview of the County Executive’s “Proposed 2006 State Legislative Package”.

During the presentation of the legislative initiative of “lifetime registration for sex offenders whose victims are under 16 years old,” Legislator Abinanti asked that the County Attorney’s Office provide a Table breakdown of what offenses are considered Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 sex offenses.

Chairman Young reminded the committee that the purpose of the meeting was to receive an overview of the State Legislative Package and that members would have ample time to question each item during later meetings.

(Abinanti, Rogowsky) Move to adjourn The Committee on Legislation. Motion passed 5-0. Legislation adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
