With a quorum present, the Committee on Legislation was called to order at 1:08 p.m.
MINUTES
(Bronz, Young) Move to approve the minutes of January 22, 2007. Motion passed 7-0.
STATE LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE
K. Pasquale will submit letter for FIT proposal to the committee.
K. Pasquale mentions that Pre-K Cap (pg. 6) and Prisoner Housing (pg. 10) are now the result of a combination of multiple previous proposals.
Leg. Oros stated that the Republican Caucus is opposed to the recent additional percentage to the sales being included in the sales tax extension item number 1.
Legislator Kaplowitz recommended changes to smart meters item.
Committee members discussed whether to remove item 7, the legislation regarding issuing pistol permits, from the Legislative Package.
Leg. Oros expressed his opposition to the new legislation on pistol permits.
-Leg. Pinto would have hoped to receive additional information about the Nassau and Suffolk process.
-Leg. Myers asks for clarification regarding the net effect of the bill on registered hunter/target shooters/other gun owners. Has noted strong opposition to re-application process.
(Maisano, Burrows) motion to remove bill from the table. Motion fails 4-6.
Chairman Pinto called for a recess at 2:29 pm.
Chairman reconvenes the meeting at 3:00 pm.
(Young, Rogowsky) Move to adjourn the Committee on Legislation. Motion passes 10-0.
Committee on Legislation adjourned at 3:05 pm.
