What:

An informational discussion on a possible calorie labeling law for restaurants.

When: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 11:30 a.m.

Where: BOL Committee Meeting Room, Michaelian Office Building- 8th floor, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains.

Why:

Due to the obesity epidemic that our country is facing, several states, cities, and counties are considering various calorie labeling laws for restaurants with multiple locations and standard portion-sized menus. The discussion will focus on the pros and cons of requiring these restaurants to post the calorie content on their menus or menu boards.

The state of California passed a calorie labeling law earlier this month, the same week that a federal judge overruled the law that was passed in New York City. Next steps for the City and Westchester will be discussed.
