What: An informational discussion on stroke prevention and the growing rate of heart disease in women.

Where: BOL Committee Meeting Room, Michaelian Office Building- 8th floor, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains.

When: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Why: It has come to the committee’s attention that stroke is the third leading cause of death in the country, having killed 150,000 Americans last year and leaving many more disabled. Many of these deaths and complications could have been avoided if more people were aware of the signs of stroke and which area hospitals are designated stroke centers. Not all hospitals are equipped to handle stroke patients. Going to the wrong facility can cost valuable life-saving time for a person suffering from a stroke. The focus of this meeting is to consider ways to better educate Westchester residents of the signs of a stroke and the seven hospitals in the county that are designated stroke centers. The growing rate of heart disease in women will also be discussed.
