MINUTES: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2006

DISCUSSION:
Chair Abinanti called the meeting to order at 3:24pm.
The first item of discussion was review and approval of minutes. The Committee members first reviewed the minutes of 1-23-2006. After all offered revisions, Legislator Kaplowitz moved to approve them as amended, seconded by Legislator LaMotte (7-0).
The members next reviewed the minutes of the Committee’s 1-30-2006 public hearing on Con Edison and NYSEG power outages. After making extensive edits, Chair Abinanti motioned to accept both sets of minutes as amended – moved by Legislator Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Legislator Kaplowitz, all in favor – aye (7-0).
The Committee members then discussed agenda items.
In reference to Indian Point (Item #5), upon the suggestion of Legislator Kaplowitz, members agreed to add the item to an Indian Point subfolder; moved by Legislator Kaplowitz, seconded by Chair Abinanti, all in favor – aye.
In reference to Items 6, 7, 10, 12 – all concerning alternative energy – Chair Abinanti suggested the items be put in an alternative energy folder, and that the Committee plan meetings to deal with each item over the coming weeks.
Item 8, an outline of the 2005 national energy crisis, was left on the agenda; Legislator Kaplowitz explained his intention to create an energy portfolio.
Legislator Rogowsky suggested the Committee invite Michel Delafontaine of Alternative Aviation Fuels back into Committee to report on any updates and answer questions about alternative energy fuels in an upcoming meeting.
Items 6, 7, 10, 12, and 16 were moved to be received & filed by Chair Abinanti, seconded by Legislator Kaplowitz – all in favor, aye (7-0).
In the approaching months, Chair Abinanti explained, the Committee will meet to address the following items: alternative energy, PCBs, smart meters, drinking water, and flood prevention.
At 3:54pm, Legislator Alvarado made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins – all in favor, aye.
