COMMITTEE ON APPOINTMENTS
MINUTES

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2006, 4:00 P.M.

PRESENT: Chair: Swanson. Members: Oros, Pinto. Staff: Vita.

GUESTS: Maurine Koranteng, Youth Board appointee.

Mrs. Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.

APPOINTMENTS

YOUTH BOARD

Maurine Koranteng: Is a resident of Yonkers, New York and has been appointed by the CE to serve as a member of the Westchester County Youth Board for a term to expire on December 31, 2008. Ms. Koranteng is a Senior at Lincoln High School in Yonkers, New York, majoring in Business and Finance Academics.

She has been a volunteer at the Westchester Junior Youth Council since 2003, where she has served as President. As a volunteer of the Youth Council, which is a youth leadership program dedicated with empowering kids with a voice in their community, Ms. Koranteng participated in a community service event-by beautifying the Yonkers community on Earth Day; Lobbying Day in collaboration with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence in Albany 2004, Relay for Life Event, sponsored by the America Lung Cancer Society, and she volunteered for Camp Viva, a program that gives respite to families’ infected/affected by HIV-AIDS. Since September of 2004, Ms. Koranteng volunteers at the Westchester Senior Youth Council, where she provides teens with a voice in the County; participated in the planning of the Annual Youth Convention and facilitated over the Racial Profiling seminar.

Legislator Pinto mentioned that he is familiar with Ms. Koranteng’s work and she will be an asset to the Board.

The members hereby moved and approve the appointment on the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Oros by a 3-0 vote. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

Adrienne Lazaro: Appointee for Council for Seniors cancelled her appointment due to the weather and is rescheduled for November 15th.

AGENDA ITEM RECEIVED & FILED:

Waiver Request for Michael Sakala has been received and filed on the motion of Legislator Oros, seconded by Legislator Pinto, by a 3-0 vote.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
