COMMITTEE ON APPOINTMENTS
MINUTES

WEDNESDAY, May 17 2006; 4:00 p.m.

PRESENT: Chair: Swanson. Members: Bronz, Oros, Pinto, Stewart-Cousins. Staff: Vita.

GUESTS: Maria Perez, Appointee-Women’s Advisory Board; Fr. Richard Alejunas, Appointee-Youth Board.

Mrs. Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

APPOINTMENTS

WOMEN’S ADVISORY BOARD

Maria Perez: is a resident of Elmsford, New York, and is appointed as an At-Large member, by the County Executive for a term to expire on December 31, 2007. She is the President of Adventures in Advertising, an advertising agency that sells promotional products to companies large and small. She has a Liberal Arts Major in social Science from Westchester Community College and is actively involved in various associations such as the Business Council of Westchester, 100 Hispanic Women, vice President of the Hispanic Business & Professional Association on Westchester and she is a member of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She is also certified as a Minority & Woman-Owned business enterprise by the Port Authority.

The members were impressed by her background and her knowledge and informed her that the committee will notify her of the committee’s decision.

Mrs. Swanson thanked Ms. Perez for taking time out of her busy schedule and said this is an open committee and feels free to contact her whenever she feels there are concerns or issues that the Legislators need to address/review.

On the motion of Legislator Bronz, seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins, the appointment is approved. Motion carried: 4-0.

YOUTH BOARD

Father Richard Alejunas [alley’hunas]: is a resident of Port Chester, New York and he is the Coordinator of Youth Ministry and Associate Pastor at Holy Rosary Church since 2005. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Don Bosco Community Center.

He attended three meetings of the Youth Board, and finds them very interesting, and he looks forward to be involved in their various programs. By mandate, he represents Port Chester as the Executive of the center, which is heavily populated by African American and Latino children and his previous work experience as a counselor and tutor will serve his goals to bring children’s issues to the Board.

· Barry Kramer-Human Rights Commission; VJP/LB

· Rosemary J. Uzzo-Human Rights Commission; ASC/LB

· George Castellanos-Human Rights Commission; SRS/ASC

· Mayo G. Bartlett, Esq.-Human Rights Commission; LB/ASC

· Yolanda Infante-Hispanic Advisory Board; LB/VJP

OTHER BUSINESS

Mrs. Swanson mentioned that Legislator Rogowsky recommended Blanca Lopez for a vacant position on the Housing Opportunity Commission, which will be submitted to the Blue Sheet for the next Board meeting.

There are other applicants' needed from three other districts: New Rochelle; Yonkers; and Mamaroneck.

Mrs. Swanson asked that the members remind their respective caucus.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m. (ASC;VJP).
