COMMITTEE ON APPOINTMENTS
MINUTES

WEDNESDAY, June 28, 2006; 4:00 p.m.

PRESENT: Chair: Swanson. Members: Bronz, Pinto, Ryan, Stewart-Cousins. Staff: Vita.

GUESTS: Bill Randolph, CEO’s Office; Gloria Swanson, Council for Seniors; Marion Anderson, Women’s advisory board; Amy Brown, Council for Seniors.

Mrs. Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.

The minutes of Wednesday, April 5, 2006 and the minutes of Wednesday, May 1, 2006 were moved and approved by Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Oros. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 5-0.

APPOINTMENTS

COUNCIL FOR SENIORS

Gloria Swanson: is a resident of New Rochelle, New York, and has been appointed by the County Executive as a District 11 Representative member for a term to expire December 31, 2007. She has earned a Masters of Science Degree in Human Resources, and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology & Humanities from the College of New Rochelle. From July 1985 through December 2002, Ms. Swanson was employed as a Program Specialist with the New Rochelle Office for the Aging, where she directed and implemented services for the New Rochelle community and she was a resource spokesperson as well.

Ms. Swanson’s background, knowledge, and expertise, will prove her to be an asset to this council. Mrs. Swanson thanked her for volunteering her time and invited her back to the committee any time she feels the need to discuss senior issues and concerns with the BOL.

On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Stewart-Cousins, the appointment is hereby approved by a 5-0 vote. All in favor, none opposed.

WOMEN’S ADVISORY BOARD

Marion Anderson: is a resident of Rye, New York, has been appointed by the County Executive as an At-Large member of this Board, for a term to expire December 31, 2007. She is filling the expired term of Marie Rossi in this capacity. She is presently the Community Service director at the Andrus Children’s Center where she is responsible for five home-visiting and family strengthening programs working with at-risk, low-moderate income children and families.

Ms. Anderson was also the Executive Director at Family & Community Services Inc., where she was the executive and administrative head of the agency.

She also worked as a Program Administrator for a licensed Mental Health Clinic, Child Care Center, After School Program, Home Health Aide services and Intergenerational activities.

The committee members welcome her expertise to the Women’s Advisory Board as she will be an asset to the Board. Mrs. Swanson thanked Ms. Anderson for volunteering her time and informed her of the open-door policy of this committee, if she feels the need to discuss future needs and concerns of the Advisory Board.

On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Stewart Cousins, the appointment is approved by a 5-0 vote. All in favor, none opposed.

COUNCIL FOR SENIORS

Amy Brown: a resident of Yonkers, New York, has been appointed by the County Executive as a District 15 Representative member, due to the resignation of Andrew Popovics, for a term to expire December 31, 2007.

Ms. Brown is a registered nurse who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Masters in Gerontology and has worked as a Patient Care Coordinator at St. Luke’s Hospital in Manhattan and retired from Montefiore Medical Center. She is a member of the 55-Plus Committee in Yonkers and is a member of the Grinton E. Will Library Book Club and she is the Deacon and Chairperson of the membership committee of her church.

Ms. Brown comes to the Council for Seniors with the knowledge, expertise and eagerness to work with the senior community in our County.

The members were impressed with Ms. Brown’s background and welcome her as an asset to the Council. Mrs. Swanson thanked Ms. Brown for volunteering her time and invited her back to our committee should any urgent senior issue need to be addressed by the BOL.

On the motion of Legislator Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the appointment is hereby approved by a 5-0 vote. All in favor, none opposed.

REAPPOINTMENTS

PLANNING BOARD

Honorable Eileen Pilla: is a resident of Ossining, New York and has been reappointed by the County Executive as a member for a term to expire December 31, 2008.

Mrs. Pilla has an excellent attendance record and is hereby approved by the committee.

The reappointment is approved by a 5-0 vote. All in favor, none opposed.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
