COMMITTEE ON APPOINTMENTS
MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11, 2007, AT 4:00 P.M.
PRESENT: Chair: Swanson. Members: Bronz, Jenkins, Pinto, Oros. Staff: Vita.
GUESTS: Virginia Hawkins-Community Services Boards; Robert Fisher-Parks Advisory Board; Cecile Singer-Women’s Advisory Board; Joseph Iantorno-Fire Advisory Board. CEO’s Office: William Randolph.
Mrs. Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.
Mrs. Swanson handed the members a copy of Bill Brown’s resignation from his Public Member position of the Rent Guidelines Board.
APPOINTMENTS
COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD
Virginia S. Hawkins: Is a resident of Mount Vernon, New York and has been appointed by the County Executive as a Consumer Representative member for a term to expire on December 31, 2009. She is employed as a Community Outreach Worker with Family Ties of Westchester, Inc. where she establishes and maintains public awareness, contacts and family support group meetings with families in the City of Mount Vernon. She also facilitates pre-networking and schedules family network meetings. She is also a former Social Worker with Westchester County and is familiar with various services for children and their families.
Mrs. Swanson thanked Ms. Hawkins for volunteering her time and expertise and explained the open door policy of this committee and welcomed him back any time to discuss issues of concern to the Board.
On the motion of Legislator Bronz, seconded by Legislator Jenkins, the appointment is hereby approved. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 4-0 [Oros out for vote].
PARKS, RECREATION & CONSERVATION BOARD
Robert P. Fisher, Jr.: Is a resident of Scarsdale, New York and has been appointed by the County Executive as a member of the Parks Board, for a term to expire December 31, 2009. He serves as the President of George Fisher, Inc., an Investment Management Company, since 2000. For seven years, he volunteered with the Westchester Youth Soccer League and was the new coach instructor and served as President.
He attended one meeting and finds the Board very interesting and enjoys taking an active role in recreation.
Mr. Pinto, who serves as the BOL Liaison, mentioned several issues and programs concerning use of various land throughout the County, such as legacy projects, tree planting programs and the infamous geese problems that are importance to the Parks program.
Mr. Fisher is aware of these problems as well, and looks forward to working with the members of the Parks Board.
Mrs. Swanson thanked Mr. Fisher for volunteering her time and expertise and explained the open door policy of this committee and welcomed him back any time to discuss issues of concern to the Board.
On the motion of Legislator Bronz, seconded by Legislator Pinto, the appointment is hereby approved. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 5-0.
WOMEN’S ADVISORY BOARD:
Honorable Cecile Singer: A Yonkers resident, Ms. Singer is appointed as a District 15 Representative member by the County Executive for a term to expire on December 31, 2007. Ms. Singer, well-known to all as the former member of the NYS Assembly, represented the City of Yonkers, the Villages of Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Scarsdale, the town of Eastchester, and portions of the Cities of White Plains and New Rochelle.
Mrs. Swanson explained the committee’s open-door policy and welcomed Ms. Singer back any time to discuss issues of concern to the Board. She also thanked her for volunteering her time and experience to this Board, as well as the many other Boards she serves knowing she will be an asset.
Ms. Singer thanked the Committee for working wither busy schedule and said she welcomes the opportunity to be part of this committee and mentioned that the WAB celebrates their 10th Anniversary on May 11th at the Westchester County Club.
On the motion of Legislator Pinto, seconded by Legislator Jenkins, the appointment is hereby approved. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 5-0.
FIRE ADVISORY BOARD:
Joseph F. Iantorno, Jr.: A resident of Bedford, New York, is appointed as a member representing the Westchester County Association of Fire Chiefs for a term to expire on December 31, 2009. He is a member since 1986 and has served on several Fire Boards throughout his career. He attended several meetings with discussions of various aspects of the County facilities, programs and activities.
Mrs. Swanson said it was a pleasure to have him aboard and welcomed his many years of knowledge and expertise to this Board as well as the many he serves, and will prove to be an asset.
Mrs. Swanson further explained the committee’s open-door policy and welcomed Mr. Iantorno back any time to discuss issues of concern to the Board.
On the motion of Legislator Swanson, seconded by Legislator Oros, the reappointment is hereby approved. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried 5-0.
With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
