Today’s guest speaker, Gail Merrill (Environmental Chairperson, Connecticut Breast Cancer Coalition) introduced herself to the committee members. She then stated the purpose for her coming before the committee was to present the members with some literature (hand-out) and to explain how she believes living near a nuclear power plant could cause cancer due to exposure to Strontium 90 (Sr-90) – a cancer-causing chemical found only in the emissions of nuclear reactors. A brief discussion ensued. At Chair Abinanti’s request, Ms. Merrill agreed to obtain additional documentation on the subject and forward it to the committee.

Several items on the agenda were received and filed.
