COMMITTEE ON COUNTY OFFICERS AND DEPARTMENTS



MINUTES: Monday, May 2, 2005, 4 p.m.

The regular meeting of the Committee on County Officers & Departments was called to order at 4:15 p.m.

MEMBERS: Chair: Pinto. Members: Astorino; Spreckman; Stewart-Cousins. Staff: Vita. Guests: Bill Randolph, CEO’s office; Peter Herrero, Jr., Parks & Recreation Board.

APPOINTMENTS

PARKS, RECREATION & CONSERVATION BOARD

Peter Herrero, Jr. – a resident of Scarsdale, New York, is appointed as a member for a term to expire December 31, 2007. Mr. Herrero has taken the oath of office and has attended several meetings. He is married with three children, and is a lifelong resident of Westchester County. He is a graduate of Westchester Community College and Pace University. He has 25 years in the Hospitality business and has served 18 years as President for P.H.D. Holding Corporation, and is the owner of Sam’s of Gedney Way and president of the Great American BBQ Company.

When asked by Mr. Astorino why appointment to the Parks Board, Mr. Herrero said he is family oriented with involvement with Earth Day events, bicycling, in and around the county and environmentally involved with numerous community projects especially the cleanup of the grounds and water at Ridge Road Park, Tibbetts Park, and Croton Falls Park. He has donated thousands of money and dinners to various agencies in Westchester such as Food Patch, the White Plains Beautification Committee and Gala, the SOS-Sharing our Strength and the Grace Church Open Arms Shelter. He does all his business in Westchester County, with the Commissioner of Parks, and he chooses workers from Westchester County as well.

On the motion of Mrs. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, seconded by Ms. Spreckman, the appointment of Peter Herrero, Jr., is approved by a 4-0 vote.

RE-APPOINTMENTS

FIRE ADVISORY BOARD:
George Tockstein – a resident of South Salem is reappointed for a term to expire December 31, 2007.

Harold Aken – a resident of Rye is reappointed for term to expire December 31, 2007.

TRAFFIC SAFETY BOARD:
Jeffrey Coleman – a resident of Peekskill, New York is reappointed for a term to expire December 31, 2007.

AFRICAN AMERICAN ADVISORY BOARD:
Mae Williams – a resident of Yonkers, New York is reappointed for the term January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2006.

All reappointments are unanimously approved by a 4-0 vote. On the motion of Mr. Astorino, seconded by Mrs. Stewart-Cousins, all four reappointments are approved by a 4-0 vote.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
