COMMITTEE ON CITIES

MINUTES: JANUARY 26, 2004

MEMBERS: Chair: Lou Mosiello; Legislators: Latimer, Spreckman, Young

The meeting was called to order at 11:42 a.m.

Setting a Quorum

Legislator Mosiello stated that this Committee would alternate Mondays at 11:30 a.m. with the Committees on Transportation, Education and Seniors. At the present, this Committee will meet on the first Monday of every month. There was no objection.

Legislator Latimer made a motion to set the quorum at 2 to hold a meeting and it was seconded by Legislator Spreckman. The vote was 4-0.

Legislator Latimer made a motion to set a quorum for action of an item at 3 and it was seconded by Legislator Young. The vote was 4-0.

Committee’s focus for the 2004-05 term

Legislator Mosiello would like to see this Committee focus on the lack of open space in Westchester’s six cities.

Legislator Young feels that this Committee could work together with the Committees on Environment, Health and Cultural & Ethnic Diversity on health related issues such as lead and asbestos which greatly affect city residents.

Legislator Latimer suggested that this Committee analyze and compare the powers of cities vs. towns.

At Legislator Latimer’s suggestion, Legislator Mosiello will send a letter to the Mayors of the six cities making them aware of this Committee and extending an invitation to them to come before the Committee.

On motion of Legislator Young, seconded by Legislator Spreckman the meeting was adjourned at 11:51 a.m.
