In a unanimous vote Monday night, Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo (Yonkers & Mount Vernon), Chair of the Board’s Committee on Seniors & Constituencies, joined with his colleagues in passing a Local Law that will extend the County’s property tax exemption for Cold War Veterans.

“Our brave men and women served us proudly, the very least we can do is help provide some financial relief,” said Tubiolo.  “This law provides some tax relief as well as the acknowledgement and recognition our veterans deserve.”

According to Tubiolo, the property tax exemption will continue to apply to Cold War Veterans as long as they remain qualifying owners.

“I am grateful to all the Legislators for supporting our County’s Veterans and passing this important measure,” said Hon. Ron Tocci, the County Executive Director of Veteran Affairs. “I encourage everyone to do something to help our veterans, so I am happy to see our County’s legislators lead by example.” Mr. Tocci is a veteran and former New York State Assmeblymember.

Veterans Day is an official U.S. public holiday, observed annually on November 11, which honors military veterans. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I, with major hostilities formally ending at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

This Local Law takes effect immediately and applies to assessment rolls based on taxable status dates occurring on or after January 1, 2018.
