(WHITE PLAINS, NY) At last night’s Board meeting, Legislators voted in support of the measure put forth by the Families Task Force.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators created the Families Task Force to expand community participation into the legislative process. Co-chaired by Legislator Catherine Borgia, Democratic Majority Leader and Kathy Halas, Executive Director of the Child Care Council of Westchester, the Task Force is comprised of a large and diverse group of individuals and organizations that work with and represent families of all kinds throughout Westchester.

“This resolution addresses six areas, all important to the well-being of Westchester families: housing, child care/after school, employment and job training, schools and home supports, transportation, and medical and mental health,” said Borgia. “In advance of drafting this resolution, the task force held several public town hall meetings in White Plains, Mt. Kisco, Yonkers and Peekskill, and to our surprise, heard similar concerns at each stop. Based on the large public input we knew what issues to hone in on. I am thrilled to continue to work with the Task Force and all of my colleagues at the Board to implement some of these common sense yet needed solutions.”

“I applaud all of the hard work of the Families Task Force and I look forward to working with them on these principles in the future,” added Vice-Chairman Jim Maisano (R-New Rochelle), a co-sponsor of the resolution. “We will continue this dialogue as the year moves on and find ways to implement these priorities,” added Maisano.

“The Families Task Force heard from families of every description that Westchester has much to offer,” said Halas. “We also heard about their hopes for their own families and how Westchester could provide even more opportunities that would ultimately strengthen the entire community. Adoption of the Thriving Families Resolution is a powerful recognition that the voices of the families were heard and an affirmation of the fundamental importance of strong families to Westchester County’s future,” concluded Halas.
