On Wednesday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m. Legislator David Tubiolo (R) Yonkers, Mount Vernon, hosted the first Hispanic Community Outreach Forum at Dia Y Noche Restaurant (640 McLean Avenue, Yonkers). The Forum was designed to inform the Hispanic community of options Westchester County offers to help in services and quality of life, but also hear the most pressing issues from the people themselves.
The Hispanic Affairs Task Force is comprised of Co-Chairs Virginia Perez (D-Yonkers) and Jim Maisano (R-New Rochelle & Pelham) with recently appointed member David Tubiolo. The Hispanic Affairs Task Force serves as a liaison between the local government and community; it plays a pivotal role in planning and executing Hispanic community events, education and outreach.
Legislator Tubiolo said “I’m honored to have been appointed to the Hispanic Task Force, representing our thriving Hispanic community in Westchester County. Hispanics have been a vital part in our county in all aspects of life, we plan to include and inform our Hispanic community as much as possible regarding services and opportunities throughout Westchester County.”
Legislator Tubiolo continued to say “We heard directly from the people regarding some of the most pressing issues facing the Hispanic community today in Westchester County, which is business ownership, education, health care, immigration and veterans services; our next Hispanic Community Forum will focus on these issues and how the county provides services and potential solutions to help.”
Hispanics have enriched our American society with cuisine, customs, dances, language, music, traditions and overall culture.
The Hispanic community has given us so many great leaders such as, Linda Alvarado (Owner of Colorado Rockies), F.J. Duarte (Laser Physicist), Roberto Goizueta (CEO – Coca-Cola Company), Enrique Iglesias (Singer), Angel Ramos (Founder of Telemundo), Jorge Ramos (Journalist), Osca De La Renta (Fashion Designer), Sonia Sotomayor (Supreme Court Justice), Raquel Welch (Actress) and many more.”
Legislator Virginia Perez said, “I am very happy to welcome Legislator Tubiolo as a member of the Hispanic Affairs Task Force. As Legislators, we are here to serve every resident of Westchester County. It is wonderful to have partners like David to help reach out to our Hispanic community to let them know that there are resources and services available to help them.”
