The mission of the Community Services Committee is to ensure that the County provides policies and programs that improve the health, safety, and quality of life for the families and children of Westchester. The Committee will conduct oversight of the Departments of Social Services, Health, Community Mental Health, the Office for Women, and any office that provides services to families, including contract agencies. The Committee will introduce legislation, and recommend policy changes on the county, state, and federal level when it is determined that the change will benefit the community.

Areas of focus include:

• Child Care
• Child Protective Services & child abuse prevention
• HIV/AIDS detection and prevention
• Healthcare
• Services for the homeless
• Obesity, smoking, drug & alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted disease, and other health concerns
• Domestic violence prevention and services for victims

Committee members bring areas of concern to the table from various agencies, boards, and commissions that are active members of or sit on, which include but are not limited to: the Board of Health, Partnership for Early Care & Education, Westchester Women’s Agenda, and the White Plains Hospital Center.
